Local Residential Moving and Storage Protection

RARE Movers offers three protection options from which you may choose prior to the start of your move. All options can be explained in full and made available to you up to the loading of your items on our truck.

Three Options
The option you select establishes RARE Moving Company, Inc.’s maximum liability for your goods, subject to the rules contained in RARE Moving Company, Inc.’s tariff and the terms and conditions on the back of our bill of lading. Please note that options A and B are for shipments in transit within the state of Massachusetts. Option C can be applied to both
transit and storage.

Option A: Basic Liability
As a licensed common carrier in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, RARE Moving is required to provide Basic Liability coverage for all goods moved. If you do not select additional coverage, this coverage is automatically provided to you at no charge.

With Basic Liability
Under this coverage, our maximum legal liability is limited to $0.60 per pound per article. This is insufficient protection for most situations. It is only recommended when accompanied by an insurance policy that covers goods in transit.

Option B: Transit Damage Protection

For customers seeking some additional protection, we offer Transit Damage Protection. This option meets most needs at a reasonable charge of $99. Transit Damage Protection limits RARE Moving Company, Inc.’s liability to the first $3000 at Actual Cash Value for damage repair/replacement. For amounts in excess of $3000, RARE’s liability will be limited to $0.60 per pound per article.

With Transit Damage Protection
If any article is lost, destroyed, or damaged while in transit and in custody of RARE Moving Company, Inc., RARE will cover the least of the following amounts: the actual cash value of the property immediately before the loss; the cost of reasonably restoring the property to its condition immediately before the loss; the cost of replacing the property with substantially identical property. All claims are subject to the rules contained in RARE Moving Company, Inc.’s tariff and the terms and conditions on the back of our bill of lading.

Option C: Actual Cash Value
This option is based on the declared actual cash value of the entire shipment by the shipper. The cost of this option is based on the value declared and can be found on our Premiums Valuation Table.

With Actual Cash Value
If any article is lost, destroyed, or damaged while in transit and in custody of RARE Moving Company, Inc., RARE will cover the least of the following amounts: the actual cash value of the property immediately before the loss; the cost of reasonably restoring the property to its condition immediately before the loss; the cost of replacing the property with substantially identical property. All claims are subject to the rules contained in RARE Moving Company, Inc.’s tariff and the terms and conditions on the back of our bill of lading.

Interstate Moving Protection

For interstate shipments we offer two valuation options for you to choose from to protect your goods.

Two Options
Please note that valuation is not insurance. It is a limited carrier liability set by our tariff. In the event of loss or damage caused by the carrier during your move, RARE’s maximum liability is determined by the value at which you release your
goods and the coverage option you choose. We want you to understand the coverage options available and offer an explanation for both below. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of our representatives for more information.

Option 1: Basic Liability
Basic liability is the minimum coverage under which your goods can be released and is provided at no additional charge. Under this coverage our maximum legal liability is limited to $0.60 per pound per article. An example: A 100 lb dining room
table valued at $3000 is lost or damaged; our maximum liability is $60.00 (100 lbs x $0.60 /lb). This is insufficient protection for most situations. It is only recommended when accompanied by an insurance policy that covers goods in transit.

Option 2: Full Value Protection
The best protection in the industry. Full Value coverage, provides for repair, replacement or reimbursement (whichever is less) at today’s replacement cost. No depreciation is applied. This coverage extends to pairs and sets. If RARE cannot
replace an exact duplicate to match the other item(s) in a pair or set, we will replace the pair or set and salvage rights may be exercised.

Full Value coverage must be purchased at an amount which is at least equal to the shipment weight multiplied by $5.00 per pound, or $5000, whichever is greater. You can declare a higher value than the minimum and can purchase Full Value at a reduced cost by choosing one of our deductible options from $250 to $1000.

International Moving Protection

RARE Moving provides basic liability coverage for the loss or damage of transported goods. If additional protection is requested, we offer options to cover items exceeding basic liability.

Option 1: Basic Liability
Basic liability covers loss or damage while in RARE’s care at a released value of $0.60 per pound. This is insufficient in most cases and is only recommended when goods are covered through another policy.

Option 2: Depreciated Value Protection
Coverage provides for repair or replacement according to current market value cost of equivalent item at destination,
based on the depreciated value of the item. Declared value must be at minimum of $6.00 per pound.

Option 3: Replacement Cost Protection
This covers the full cost of repair or replacement of lost or damaged items, based on the cost of an equivalent item at the country of destination. Replacement Cost Protection coverage insures against direct personal loss from pack date to delivery date and includes 60 days of storage coverage. An extension beyond this time limit is available. Declared value must be at minimum $8.00 per pound.

Valued Inventory
In order to protect your shipment adequately, a valued inventory must be completed prior to pickup. If you have your item listed for other purposes in a computer program, just print a copy for us and sign the valued inventory for the selected amount of coverage. Please check the list prior to printing to make sure that the items reflect replacement cost at destination.

At a minimum, items valued at $500 or more per item, pair or set (20% of the total of shipment, depending on volume), must be valued prior to the move in order to pursue the opportunity for full recovery. Deductibles are available and may reduce the cost of insurance.
